The Nazi party was a political party in Germany. The party was active between 1920 and 1945 and practiced Nazism. The party fought against the communist uprisings after World War II in Germany. The party first started to draw workers away from the communism and into volkisch nationalism. The central for the party was racism, and the party sought to exterminate Jews, Romani and the physically and mentally handicapped. The party also imposed exclusionary segregation on homosexuals, Africans, Jehovah Witnesses and political opponents. The party got control over the German state and organized the murder of six million Jews and five million people from the other target groups. The whole process has become known as the Holocaust. The people who were members of the party referred to themselves as Nationalsozialisten (National Socialists) also as Nazis.
