Adolf Hitler was born in Branau Am, Austria on April 20, 1889. When Hitler was three, his family moved from Austria to Germany. As a young boy, Hitler clashed with his father and following the death of his younger brother Edmund in 1900, he became very detatched from the rest of his family. . Three years after his brother died, his father had passed. He began to show interest in the fine arts and German nationalism, rejecting the authority of Austria-Hungary. Two years later, his mother allowed him to drop out of school and move to Vienna with money he got after his father’s death, in order to pursue a career in art. Hitler applied to the Academy of Fine Arts twice and was rejected on both occasions. Out of money, he became homeless and remained that way for several years until the outbreak of the first world war, where he signed up for the German Army.
After the war, Hitler became very passionate about Germany and found the Treaty of Versailles very degrading to the German people. Hitler remained with the military as an intelligence officer, monitoring the German Workers Party. He began to adopt the ideas of the party and when he was asked to join, he did so without hesitation. The party later changed its name to the Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Abeiterparei, more known as the Nazi Party. Hitler soon gained popularity for his speeches against the Treaty of Versailles, rival politicians, Marxists and Jews. In 1921, he was appointed the party chairman. On November 8th, 1923 Hitler and several members stormed in on a public meeting declaring that the national revolution had begun and so had the formation of a new government. Three days later, Hitler was arrested and tried for high treason and served a year in prison where he wrote the infamous Mein Kamph. His novel made him even more popular amongst the people and in 1932, he ran for president. Hitler came in second, but was appointed chancellor due to his popularity. Hitler became supreme leader after the presidents death in 1934, and the Nazi regime was the only political power in the country.
